Position Overview: The Mission United Veteran Navigator will serve as an essential link between veterans, active-duty military members, and their families and the community resources designed to meet their unique needs. Using a strengths-based, client-centered approach, the navigator will work to connect clients with a network of local resources and provide the compassionate support necessary to help clients achieve their goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct client assessments to understand needs, strengths, and goals, creating tailored, individualized support plans.
  • Provide referrals to local resources, services, and programs specifically available for veterans, active-duty members, and their families, addressing areas such as housing, employment, healthcare, and education.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients to monitor progress, address any new needs, and provide ongoing support.
  • Collaborate with United Way’s 2-1-1 resource program to stay informed on updated local resources and assist clients in navigating the systems.
  • Encourage, support, and motivate clients using empathy, non-judgment, and understanding to foster trust and engagement.
  • Document interactions, updates, and any additional support provided to ensure continuity of care and service effectiveness.

Requirements:

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to listen to clients' experiences in a respectful and supportive manner.
  • Knowledge of veteran and military culture, issues, and available resources (preferred).
  • Empathy, patience, and the ability to provide encouragement and motivation.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple clients and maintain accurate records.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to changing client needs and available community resources.
